After 25 years of teaching experience, working with some of the world’s best golf instructors and attending coaching summits across the continents, Harro can now define his teaching style as KISS – Keep it Super Simple.
Harro listens to clients’ wishes, explores their previous experiences, looks at their personal motor skills and athletic ability, discovers their motivation and the practice time (and budget) they have at their disposal to create a path to a better or more enjoyable round of golf. Pleasant simplicity replaces unnecessary technical mumbo jumbo.
Experience has taught Harro that progress in golf doesn’t need to be slow, and neither does it have to be fuelled by complex information and rules. He likes to remind his clients that golf is not an academic or intellectual activity, it is a sport, and they’re better off “doing it” rather than “thinking it”.
Harro tailor-makes each client’s golf programme to ensure the best results and uses everything from video analyses to physical screening whilst always remembering to “KISS”. .
When Hendrik “Harro” Rijnders took on a summer job helping to construct the 45 hole four-courses-in-one Brunssumerheide Golf in his home town of Brunssum, he was unaware that it would herald the start of a long and successful golfing career. Aged just 15, the course’s head professionals; Henk Timmer, Dick Kuysters and Sean Cunningham, spotted Harro’s special aptitude for the game and quickly took him under their wing. By 1992, he had become the youngest fully qualified teaching professional in the Netherlands at the tender age of 22.
Armed with this new talent, that same year Harro packed his car and drove down to southern Spain. His aim was to learn the language and refine his trade as a golf professional in what he believed to be the number one golf resort in Europe –Andalucia.
In a stroke of good fortune, Harro straight away joined the team at La Quinta Golf & Country Club, a 27-hole golfing paradise just five minutes from Marbella. He helped to establish the first Golf Academyon the Costa del Sol and kept improving his game under the watchful eye of Manuel Piñero – course designer and one of Spain’s finest and most successful golfers with 12 professional wins.
Three years later in 1995 Harro made the move to the International Golf Academy at Atalaya Golf & Country Club. Working in conjunction with the prestigious five-star Las Dunas Beach Hotel & Spa, as their in-house professional.
2001 saw Harro progress to Golf Director and Director of Teaching at Monte Mayor Golf & Country Club, a position he left in 2010 to join the brand new American Golf Academy and direct the short 18-hole Academy Course of Tramores, both at Los Flamingos Golf – home to the exquisite Tuscan palace-styled five-star Villa Padierna Palace Hotel.
Now with two decades of experience, Harro decided in 2012 that the time was right to control his own destiny with the creation of his own Golf School. Today he offers a truly international clientele (Harro teaches in Dutch, English, Spanish and German) the chance to practice or play on some of the world’s highest ranked golf courses with luxurious facilities to match.
